Responsibilities of Members of the Advisory Councils

Description of Office

The Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Councils are charged with identifying and discussing issues of concern to ASHA members. They provide information on these issues to the Board of Directors (BOD) and recommendations for the BOD's consideration in determining possible future programs and services to be developed and/or supported by the Association's resources. Members are subscribed to Advisory Council Web-based discussion forums and group email lists to assist them in fulfilling their charge.

Each Advisory Council is comprised of 53 members - one from each state, the District of Columbia, International constituency, and NSSLHA. Members of the Advisory Councils are elected by ASHA members in their state and profession, to serve a three-year term.   Members of the Advisory Councils are required to be current with ASHA dues throughout service on the Advisory Council.

Term of Office

Each Advisory Councilor is elected to serve a three-year term.  Terms are staggered so that there is overlap and continuity between the two Councils.

    * Audiology Advisory Council --  position currently held by Linda Jacobs-Condit; and, the next nomination will occur in 2011 for election to the next term of office 2012 to 2014.  Because of term limits, this position needs to be filled by another Audiologist.
